IPCPR: Legislative Alert for Kansas Tax
From Chris McCalla, legislative director of IPCPR.
Quote:
Governor Proposes Across-the-Board Tobacco Tax Increases
Proposal is in Early Stages-Little Support at this Time
January 29, 2010 - In his State of the State address, Gov. Parkinson proposed increasing the state's tobacco taxes. This includes the excise tax on cigars and pipe tobacco.
Right now, the governor's plan is in its early stages and we have no substantial details. We suspect the excise tax rate may increase from 10% to 40% based on last year's failed attempts. Again, that is only speculation.
Understanding their exists strong Republican opposition to the governor's plans, we have taken an activist stance and launched a Legislative Action Alert. From this Action Alert, you and your customers have the opportunity to send a message to your legislators of your districts voicing your opposition to any new tobacco taxes:
Legislative Action Alert
I strongly urge all of you to forward the Legislative Action link to your customer email lists and enlist the support of them. If we can send a strong, loud enough message to the State Legislature saying "No New Taxes!" we may be able to stop this proposal in its tracks.
As soon as we have more details and information, we will share with all of you and revise the Legislative Action Alert. Please do not hesitate contacting me if you may have additional questions.
Thank you for activism to Protect Your Liberty!
