Oasis XL II Foam

I have 3 large cabinet style humidors, humidification has become a problem of late. I've been using Cigar Oasis XL II (The one that's about the size and shape of a shoe box.

Turns out I who thinks he knows everything didn't know some stuff...

1. The foam is supposed to be replaced annually

2. I have moved the units to the middle shelves instead of the bottom shelf

3. I have added the fan kits that are an option

4. And the hardest one to admit, I had them place in the humis, 'backwards', the air should blow towards the doors (I think, it seems to work better this way).

Apparently the term "old dogs, new tricks" can be used here. So could "take a minute and think you pathetic dumbass".

I could certainly use new foam. Were you able to locate an online source?

The foam isn't needed. The foam is there to help prevent getting the electronics wet and shorting it. On my Oasis Plus I have the original empty bottom, without the foam. I just fill it with distilled water and very carefully place it my Aristocrat Mini. It works perfectly. No need for foam or replacing.

Rob, when you took the foam out, did you cut the plastic or just chip the foam out?

I've been thinking about losing the foam for a while now. (I didn't know you were supposed to change cartridge yearly.)

I didn't remove the foam. Originally, none of the Oasis line of humidifiers came with the foam. The foam was added, IMO, for 2 reasons. First, people were breaking them because they would splash water on the electronics when putting them into the humidor. That would fry the circuits and it would be a goner. Second, by selling the foam replacement cartridge, they have repeat buyers and a steady stream of income.

I think the best way to remove the foam would be to simply take a knife and start cutting and slicing it. It will break apart and eventually you'll get it all out.
