can't find any propylene glycol

unable to find a local source for this. Have tried drugstores and the mega-hardware. Today I'm going to break down and hit a cigar retailer (but I think I remember seeing a bottle of this stuff at an equestrian store awhile back). What's with that? Is there such limited uses of pg that it is not sold in stores? Am I looking in the wrong kind of stores? Do you only order on line?

Medical supply stores carry it my friend. Check the yellow pages.
If you get in a bind send me a message and I can mail you some.

Moob - wait! Is the address in your profile correct? If so, I'll drop a pint in the mail to you today. I've gone to Climmax beads, and I just don't need the PG any more. LMK and it's yours.

What a gesture Mad Dawg. I am loving how friendly and helpfull this place is! Just for future reference though, you can usually find PG at feed stores. I myself get PG when I need it from my wife's work. She's a vet tech, so we have access to all sorts of helpfull stuff. By the way, has anyone seen that thread on ICG on how to make your own bead type humidity media? I have been wanting to try it out, but just haven't had a chance.

Thanks for the kind words, hotshot, but it's no big deal. I've been the beneficiary of lots of kindness and generosity from CW'ers, and I'm only trying to pay it forward. That's what makes this place work.

You're right about being able to get PG from veterinary supply houses. KV Vet Supply (they're online but I don't have the URL handy) sells PG USP in gallon jugs for about 12 bucks. Medichest.com has pints for about $8, but you pay shipping. I tried the local pharmacies, but they don't carry it.

As to the bead media, Climmax is a salt-treated silica gel. I have no idea how to go about making your own, but since a pound sells for about $30 and will humidify 5 cubic feet (anough for a 150-qt coolerdor), I'm not sure you'd want to bother.

This place certainly does work on the "pay it forward" idea. I just read about all the bombs that were sent back and forth in the Trade Forum. Needless to say, I am still tripping over my jaw lol. Here's the link to that create your own beads thread if you are curious http://www.cigargroup.com/news/stora...ges/11290.html If it works and is viable, that is $30 more to blow on cigars.

If you or anyone else who reads this needs a bunch of this, I have an unopened gallon jug, purchased from www.thechemisrystore.com that I would be happy to send. I don't need it now that I purchased a cabinet. I had big plans though. Just sitting in my closet,

I actually need some 100% pure PG (I have 50/50, but I need a PG-heavy mix due to excess humidity), and I'm in the same boat. I can't find the straight stuff.

I'd pay for the PG and cover someone's shipping if they had some to send me PM if interested.

Why buy it from an online retailer if people already have too much of it - people helping people, you see?

I would think a gallon is WAY too much for me, btw. I only have a single desktop.
