AJ Fernandez Montecristo Belicoso

The wrapper is dark and mostly smooth with a couple of prominent veins. Box pressed, firm bunch, wrapper smells like fresh coffee in a leather shop. Smooth cold draw with cocoa and coffee notes.

Starts off solid with leather, cocoa, and coffee with a drop or two of rye whisky in it. The burn looks like it will be slow, giving me maximum time with the cigar. The burn is even and the ash is medium grey and looks fairly solid with no flakes. Tonight's beverage is a cold Topo Chico.

This is a medium to full cigar with great construction, burn and flavor. The retrohale is very smooth with no pepper notes so far. At one third the ash remains solid. The leather notes have dropped off a bit, and some sweetness has developed to complement the coffee and cocoa notes. This cigar would go very well with a good cup of coffee.

This is the first time I have v-cut a torpedo and I am pleased with the result. The ash dropped at about two inches, fortunately over the table and not in my lap. The smoke is plentiful and smooth. The burn started to run a bit so I touched it up.

During the second third pepper notes emerged, mostly in the retrohale. At 2/3 the cigar continues to smoke great. The burn responded well to the touch up and is staying mostly even again. The complexity of flavors is very nice with the pepper notes building.

Approaching the final inch the cigar is warming up but still a very pleasant smoke. The v-cut worked out very well. Overall this is a very good cigar with a medium finish. Good complexity as well. 8.75/10, Joe Bob says check it out.
