As if we didn't know that facts, research, good science didn't matter in our day and time, Dr. Enstrom who studied the lack of effects and documented it after 38 years of research was fired from UCLA.

The passive smoking debate
Some people will find the concept of a debate on passive smoking quite strange, surely, they may think, this issue has been settled? Passive smoking is bad for you, and the increasing tendency for society to label smokers as 'disgusting' etc is completely justified. However, there are still some who contest the point about passive smoking and argue that its harms are exaggerated.
Dave Atherton points out that in 2003 the British Medical Journal published the 38 year Enstrom/Kabat paper which stated in plain English that second hand smoke was "not causal" of heart disease, attacks and lung cancer. Professor James Enstrom is a world renown epidemiologist of absolute integrity and impeccable academic credentials. After publication in the BMJ the American Cancer Society (ACS) ran a concerted campaign to get him fired from his post at UCLA. Many years later, it appears as though James Enstrom has indeed recently been fired.

Read the whole piece and post comments. Dr. Enstrom almost single-handedly has repudiated with facts and research, every untruth foisted by the emotion-power-money driven anti-tobacco movement. Yet he's always stifled (gee, THERE'S a surprise) or ignored by a compliant media world-wide.
