Chicago is amazing. Gentrification is really changing some great neighborhoods like Pilsen and Logan Square that you used to count on for groceries. Hipsters like Whole Foods, I don't.
Standard Market has 2 locations near me, I call it the food porn store. They dry age meat, and have a lot of things you see in Europe or online. Oh, here's a place for you to look at: https://yummybazaar.com/ They do sell fish balls https://yummybazaar.com/products/hus...ine-28-oz-800g Its a neat site, they are cheaper than Amazon on imported stuff

I am doing my weekend chores right now, but I am sure that I will enjoy browsing that site later on.
Re: the search for szechuan peppercorns, I couldn't find them locally. Not even the international market or WF. Ordered online and Walmart was 5x more expensive for 1/4 of the amount than Amazon. Online pricing can be really tricky if you aren't paying attention. I think a lot of shoppers would have looked at the Amazon price of $8 for 4 ounces and the Walmart price of 1 oz for 4 bucks and just pick the lowest price. It almost fooled me. Per ounce, Walmart is double what Amazon is charging for the same quantity. And this wasn't available for store pickup, so the whole shipping costs would have been added to it as well. I use the peppercorns about 5x/year. It's hardly a staple in my kitchen.

what I liked about my wok is that I could sort of stash stuff on the cooler outer rim and concentrate things in the hot center.
