GCC Robusto
About a year-and-a-half ago, I bought a box of GCC robusto's. I tried a couple right out of the box, and while they were darn tasty, getting any smoke was like trying to suck a golf ball through 20 feet of garden hose. On the JRBB, someone suggested I take them from the original box and put them into one with more space, then let them rest a while, that they would expand back out somewhat. So I did this, put them into the bottom of one of my coolers, and flat out forgot about them.
18 months later...... I'm digging around in the coolers looking for a smoke to have while I'm motoring around the yard on my good old John Deere model 68 mower. And what should I happen upon, but that well aged box of GCC robustos. So I pop it open and grab one. The cigars had definitely expanded back out some. So I cut the end and took a drag, and sure enough, a firm but good draw. Alright! Now, these GCC's are certainly a hansome smoke. A good looking red-brown wrapper and solid construction. When I fired it up, I almost drove into a tree in a state of rapture. This cigar posessed a marvelous tobacco spice flavor, I just couldn't believe it! It was bold, but not overpowering, and bursting with great tobacco flavor. The flavor profile stayed the same down to the nub, while the strength picked up, but again, not overpowering. The burn was OK, it got off a couple times, but corrected itself. Overall, I was totally pleased with this cigar. Say what you will, but Perdomo can make one hell of a cigar. And I've got 20 of these little jewels left to go . For $50 a box, these smokes are an excellent buy. Oh, if your doing the rest-to-expand thing with a square pressed, take off the bands, they keep the cigar from expanding out where the band is. My GCC's are kinda funny lookin' now. |
