Dylan basically a burr grinder is going to give you a more uniform and consistent grind. With that being said you have to remember that there are even differences between in burr grinders. A Melitta burr grinder that I bought as my first grinder was cheap, a fast grinder and was a burr grinder but not a conical burr grinder. On the coarsest setting it gave a decent amount of fine grind (almost powder) and the coarser grind was fairly uniform. I bought a Solis Maestro Plus slow burr grinder a few years ago that uses conical type burrs and as far as I'm concerned it was a good investment. It still delivers a very small amount of finer grind (I don't think you can avoid this no matter how pricey a grinder you buy) but the rest of the grind is very unform on the coarse setting which is what I use because I french press all of my coffee.
Bottom line is there are a few things that need to be in place for the optimum flavor extraction when brewing. Correct water temp, length of brew time and a proper uniform grind size for the method of brewing you choose. There are some burr grinders out there that are as cheap or just slightly more expensive than some of the blade grinders. I think you would wind up being much happier with even a low end burr grinder than any blade grinder you could buy, but remember that is just my opinion.
