Occasionally, but I've been focused on Ethiopian naturals since the first Idido Misty Valley hit the market and I don't get bored with them. More specifically, I don't get bored chasing the elusive Blueberry Beans.

When I first started roasting my own, I was into Sumatrans, but eventually their forest-floor funkiness lost its appeal. Then it was Kenyans, but eventually their overt brightness lost its appeal. Then for a long time it was Guatemalans, but their uber-clean nature (and the scarcity of Coban beans) left me adrift.

Then the Misty Valley just ruined me.

I still keep other beans around, especially Brazilians, Rwandans and Yemenis, but 90+% of what I roast are Ethiopian naturals.

Good to hear from you Doug.

You can keep the naturals. I like to pop in a 1/2 cup of Bob-O, Rwanda or Indian Mysore, crank it to the first snap of second crack, pull the roast, and all of the beans are the same color. Wa la, no quakers.

I hate picking those suckers out.

Sometimes it is worth the effort, though. I do keep some around when I have
that unique blueberry craving.

More for me, bro!

Quakers are part of the game if you're gonna play with naturals. The cleanest prep I've ever had still had a couple that needed picking.

What I've found interesting is that there seems to be an inverse correlation between cleanliness of prep and blueberry bombage. I've tried a number of Grade 1 Ethiopian nats, and none have rivaled some of the Grade 3 Yirgacheffes I've had. I've also found better results when I do a light picking of the quakers. Really makes me wonder if the blueberry comes from at least slightly under-ripe beans.

But yeah, Bob-O-Link is top of my list of Brazilians, and it's just hard to go wrong with a Rwandan. I just wish I could find a dry-processed Rwanda.

Thanks for the heads up Doug! I'll have to look and see what all they have currently stocked.

Can't answer for Doug but like him I really like the Ethiopian naturals and other African origins. I've kind of went away from the brightness of the Kenyans.

I do also really enjoy a lot of the Costa Rican coffees as well as coffees from Nicaragua, Brazil and El Salvador. Have had a few pretty good coffees from Guatemala also.

I'm not a coffee drinker, in fact I hate coffee, but with free shipping I might have to place an order or two.
