I have come to the conclusion that I do not Like V cuts
When I use a cutter the guillotine type i usually cut off more than I should , so , I started trying out the V-cut end of my cutter , and after about a week I have decided I just simply do not like the way my cigars taste when using the V-cut.
When I use the V-cut , they tend to burn my tongue and have an almost ash tray flavor to them , I finally confirmed this last night , I started out with a V-cut smoked about an inch of the cigar and it simply wasn't enjoyable , I re-cut it using the other end of the cutter which opened it up quite a bit , and viola , it was an enjoyable cigar... I can only assume that it is because the smoke doesn't get concentrated before it hits my tongue... So , no more V-cuts for me... Dan |

Same with a Bullet, or hole punch type cutter; seems to concentrate bad flavors.

You really shouldn't have a problem with "taking off too much" with a straight cutter. You just clip it short of the shoulder, and the cap pops off, without any injury to the wrapper.
Alternatively, those double edge guillotines are everywhere with the "back" on them that are fool-proof. |

In theory you are correct , but , in practice in my case , I always cut too much off I have been looking around at reviews and such for cutters , I need to get something other than these cheap ass ones I have been using , then again , the frequency at which I lose them , maybe I should stick to the cheap ones... I don't know how to post a link on this stupid iPad, but if you go to
Cuban Crafters and look up "perfect cigar cutter dos chabetas up to 80 ring gauge" you will see what I mean. It's in the open position and shows the "back stop" where you just put the foot in and cut. The little round hole in the middle is for the pointy perfectos. Oh, and who the hell needs an eighty ring gauge! |

I just lay my Xikar on a flat surface such as a desktop, put the cigar head down in the cutter and clip. No problems at all.

Lay it on the table. Put the cigar in there, holding it firmly. Cut. Done. Smoke!

So , 2.5 years later , I tried V-cuts again, no particular reason...
And , so far , no issues as I had in 2015 ... Guess it never hurts to revisit things... Dan |

V-cutters have improved a lot. Especially the Xikar or Colibri.
