Legends of the Loco Gringos
Over the next few weeks (months if you like the stories), I'll try to cut through the haze and relate some of the more entertaining stories from the Loco Gringos, Dallas' premier "Drunk Rock" band from the mid-to-late 80s through 1990 when Tom died.
Chapter one: Shrouded in liquor, the origin of the name. This directly from the lips of Tom (AKA Pepe Lopez): We decided to take the train down to Monterrey, just for the fuck of it. What the hell, we didn't have real jobs at the time, except for Pablo, so he didn't go. So there we are in the cabin on this rickety old Mexican train that we caught in Laredo with a drunk old Mexican. And we were just being ourselves, and the old guy just kept saying, "You gringos are loco." After a while, one of us realized that it would make one hell of a band name...
