Ramon Allones Coronas (OSU MAR02)
Wrapper: Medium tan with slight reddish tint, thin veins, very thin and delicate wrappers. This wrapper is like the Corojo of old, paper thin and nice looking. Some green blotches were noted but not that much. Construction/Draw: Beautifully rolled, nice firm feel, nice cap. Solid yet had perfect draw which surprised me since these were so young, the wet feel led me to believe these might be plugged. But they were not. Draw was perfect. Flavor/Strength: Extremely powerful spicy element, on the earthy side, dominated this cigar. It had a long Cuban Tobacco finish, slightly floral, and hints of bitter nuts. This cigar is very well represented in the overall Ramon Allones flavor profile in general. Due to its young age, the cigar was also exhibiting a rough bitterness, and acidic quality to it that you felt on the palate. A few years in the humidor will round out this powerful cigar. Final Thoughts: When I would get a box of well aged cigars and find them to be extremely strong in flavor, I often wondered what the cigars were like when they were young. I often thought they would be unsmokable since they would be overly strong and aggressive in its young state. Now I know what such cigars are like. The new batches of Ramon Allones Coronas are extremely strong and rough, to the point of being unsmokable, yet the flavors that come out are absolutely classic Ramon Allones, simply fantastic. These will blossom into classics one day, and I hope I can hold on to a few for a few years. Rating: 92
