The era of the "celebrity chef" seems to be drawing to a close.

While the issues the article discusses may be having some affect on the celebrity chef restaurant closings there are all types of higher end restaurants closing and I ascribe the closing to two things.
1) In Britain, the Brexit issue has all sorts of development on hold and many businesses are retrenching to see what happens. Especially in the City of London where many finance companies are looking to decamp to Frankfurt. 2) In the US, the tax law changes to the deductiblity of meals have companies instructing sales people and staffs to choose less expensive options for entertaining. (Same goes for all those sports box seats that have lost deductibility. The part of the article that I think is most accurate was the non-renewal of leases. Real estate prices in most metro areas with high end restaurants are up significantly from the post recession era when landlords had lowered rents and offered 100% buildouts to get tenants into their buildings.

"Celebrity chef" is nearly an oxymoron. (I like, "Celebrity Short Order Cook")

fine dining has been is decline for some time as Gen Z and the millennials don't seem to be into that. Ans being a celebrity doesn't make you a business person.
Also rents in big cities are some enormous it amazes me anyone has money leftover to go to McDonalds

I was shocked at what a burger cost in Manhattan, and that was 20 years ago.

I'm doing the Chef's Tasting at Barley Swine for a birthday treat. Bryce Gilmore is getting stellar reviews here in Austin.

Regardless of status, I'd still like to try Aaron Sanchez's barbecue there in Austin metro.

Millennials taking endless pictures of food are trending towards the hidden food places now.
I can understand that, but what it really means is that these twits are going to ruin what real foodies truly appreciate in mom and pop places. That might sound pretentious, but I don't GAF.
