Probably my favorite member of The Doors. The Doors were a unique band, but you really saw Manzarek's role in the band in the two albums they did after Morrison died (yes, I have both of them). His work with X and the later works with Iggy Pop and Echo And The Bunnymen were memorable as well.

Great musician & he could sing well too. Saw The Doors in 1970 & Manzarek solo several times. He'd play & sing Doors songs, classical & jazz compositions and tell some amazing stories. You could always find him in the parking lot before a show, chatting with his fans. RIP.

I never really liked the doors - the organ rifs were cool though. I did not realize, until I read that article, that they had no Bass player. that obviously contributed significantly to their very unique sound.

Manzarek played the organ fills with his right hand & did the bass lines on the lower notes with his left hand. I, of all people, hate to say it but they didn't need a bassist.
