The importance of resting your pipe between bowls

Well I made this common mistake last night. I smoked a bowl of BBF, swabbed the pipe with a pipe cleaner then smoked Stonehaven in the same pipe. The BBF was wet and I didn’t let it dry out as much as I should have. So the inside of the pipe was wet. Wet tobacco also creates steam which causes tongue bite. OUCH.

Now, not letting the pipe rest leaves a lot of tobacco juice in the pipe, no matter how well you run a pipe cleaner through it. So the Stonehaven tasted sour. I knew what I had done, not letting the pipe rest between bowls. Newbie mistake. Shame on me. So I pitched the tobacco and got a new Stonehaven flake and loaded it in a clean and rested pipe. Much better, flavor was awesome.

Now resting a pipe, you need to let your pipe rest once you smoke it and run a clean pipe cleaner through it for 24 to 48 hours before using that pipe again. If you don’t, the next bowl will likely taste sour.
