I knew Santa Clara and JR were different ends of the same business, the other two, didn't know but it doesn't surprise me either

I knew that JR and Cigars.com were the same. If you type in cigars.com you go to the JR site. I didn't know about Serious Cigars. It's like CI that has it's main site, cigar.com, pipesandcigars.com and now Thompson's.

However, I could be misinformed, do not C.I. Cigars.com and PipesAndCigars basically share a mailing address? I have seen these on the print catalogs and the order forms therein. If not the exact same address, they seem very close and even on the same street.

I would imagine one way to increase your ROI on a warehouse/distribution center would be to have as many sources of demand as possible so the more websites and B&M entities you have the more efficient the DC is increasing your ROI.
I guess each of these websites is slightly different or targets a slightly different market

I truly admired lew for how he ran that place. Do you remember when there would be cute little spiffs with the order? The one I remember best was a trial size deodorant. A buck at a store, he might pay a quarter or a dime, and every JR customer got a free sample from someone. Everybody won. Jr got goodwill. Lever bros. got promotion. We smelled better. That is the only company that I can think of that had co-op advertising like that.
