Cuarenta y tres
Cuarenta y tres (43) licor.
This is a vanilla (among other) flavored liqueur from Spain. Has anyone else tried this? I'm not really an imbiber as my friends know, but we went to a tapas restaurant tonight. At the end of the meal Kelly let slip to the waitress that it was my birthday, so she brought me a shot of this gratis I shared it around the table, but, damn, this stuff is really good. I may have to spring for a bottle of this. http://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/P-3252.aspx Another link Quote:

Have to look for this. The only other vanilla liqueur I was aware of is Vanille Royale out of the Caribbean.

LOL, thank my watiress, Doug!
THEN she says "it's hard to find..." suggested Dorignac's, about the only grocery that would have it here, locally.

My only word of warning is that after a spicy meal, you will likely pull out a LOT more vanilla than usual. I did this with a flavored whisky once. Ate some salsa then took a drink of Revel Stoke spiced whisky. It was so good I bought a bottle...Hated every single sip once I got the damn thing home.

Thanks for the warning, Mackenzie. This meal was very flavorful, but not a great deal of spice or heat. Lots of herbs and garlic, cheese, serrano ham, and chorizo (sliced thin, like salami.)
I found the alcohol strong, but then, I would. Once I get some for home, I'm going to let it sit a few moments like I do with cream sherry.

found it almost 30 years ago, gave it a try, found it to be very tasty in a very syrupy sweet way. Sort of like angel food cake liquor.
I liked it, but overall, I prefer things like drambuie or grand marnier for liqueur. In fact, I think that either of those just leave nearly everything in the dust. Tommy, do me a big favor. Find lazzeroni ammaretto. That was the best amaretto I've ever had, without exception. The label said that the stuff is made by infusing cookies into spirits, and my god, you can actually taste the browned baked goods. Wonderful. If you like sweet liqueurs, especially amaretto, this is the one. |

Bri I'm not really a drinker, in fact, other than champagne on New Year's Eve, I didn't take a real drink until I hit 30-31 when I started smoking cigars. I still don't really like much, Port, cream sherry is about all I drink. Now I've found I like this.
The Cream Sherry from StoneHill Winery in Branson, and elsewhere in the old German wine country of Missouri is actually pretty good.

Is it really that much (price-wise I mean) better than Tuaca? Just wondering, as Tuaca is pretty much a go-to for vanilla.
BTW, T2B, if you are not drinking Turbo Dog with your cigars, then I might actually begin to wonder if that is, in fact, a Bronx accent instead of a Metaire one... (kidding...)
