seeking invaluable cigar knowledge

Hey everybody, I have been smoking cigars randomly off and on for the past five years, I have now decided to just get serious about it. I got a little humidor for Christmas and a nice little sampler; however I am a noob but I am also a sponge looking to soak up valuable info and advice from day one basics to highbrow knowledge. So if anyone wants to unload their sage wisdom please do so, I want to learn it all.

Welcome to CW, Mr. Vandalay. There is a wealth of information in this group. You can check out past threads or simply ask questions. We have a group of people who are eager to help.

Again, let me cheerfully welcome you to the community. You can learn a lot here, there are people here who have decades in the business, and most of the members here have been passionately smoking cigars for decades. As far as wisdom, you can guess that the people here have made all of the mistakes, and learned from them.

Look through the threads, and by all means, do not hesitate to ask questions. Put in a question, and you will get an answer, and a good one.

But, right up front, let me suggest that you don't ask whether the cellophane wrapper should be taken off.

EVERYBODY knows that you have to leave it on...

Brian's just pulling your leg. Everyone knows you're supposed to take it off.

welcome to CW

Only rule I have for cigar smoking is:

Smoke what you like, like what you smoke

Absolutely.

You're going to run into people everywhere who will tell you what the best cigars are, based on everything from ratings to what they heard from the guys at the local stogie shop. You're going to hear rave reviews for a whole lot of $5-15 cigars.

One of the truest things that you will ever hear is that there are a lot of really good cigars that can be had in the $2-5 range. As Jeff said, listen to the advice of people who you trust, and then trust your own tastes.

I never imagined a time when there would be so many cigars on the market that sold for $10-20, and I never in my wildest imaginings thought that old standbys like the fuente Hemingway would actually become bargain smokes!

The point is, judge every cigar on it's own merits, and go into every cigar with an open mind. You may find out that you can't taste the difference between a $10 cigar and a $3 cigar.

As Lew Rothman once stated, “the only difference between a $10 cigar and a $2 cigar is eight dollars.”
