New to Pipes

Hi BOTLs.

I was ust wondering if someone could put together a thread that would go over all the basic information needed for a new pipe smoker. I want to start, but I am a bit intimidated. That is why I havn't bought that nice set up Tedski. Anyhow, I think I am ready to try it out. Information about how to pack the tobacco in the pipe, which tobacco to use, the shape of the pipe, how to clean it, and how to smoke it are questions that I don't know the answer to. Any help would be great.

Thanks
Danny

Danny ... much of the information you seek can be found at many places online. A good place to start is http://www.pipes.org. Check out the FAQ section for the "How To" guide and lots of other basic info.

You shouldn't feel intimidated ... it's just tobacco and a shaped piece of wood + plastic. There are guidelines written to help maximize your smoking experience, but in the end you will just need to go through the learning process like the rest of the BOBs (Brothers of Briar).

As for what tobaccos to use ... I say, sample all the tobaccos you can ... only you will know what blends tickle your tastebuds. Pipe shapes are also a personal choice. Start with some cheapies to learn with. Then if you decide that you really enjoy the experience, find some better quality pipes that have the size and style that catch your eye.
