Hoyo de Monterrey Petit Robusto (Hoyo McNugget)

I just got these in the mail today, and decided to fire one up pronto. This is a nice fat lil' 4 inch cigar with a 50 ring guage. My friend DaveC and I have taken to calling this cigar the "HoyoMcNugget." I settled in on the cigar porch, under the ceiling fans with a Cointreau martini and the Herfin Cat and some Robert Johnson delta blues to check this little rascal out.

The wrapper is a nice light pecanshell brown wrapper. It had a very few hair thin veins, but not many. Very nice construction and an excellent triple cap. The smell was classic habano. Although this is a VERY young cigar, there was no ammonia smell or taste.

The pre-light draw was very earthy, with a little mineral taste on the lips. The light was very easy. Then BOOM, the draw blew my mind. Picture the domestic LGC#4 superlush draw, and you have it. It was not underfilled, but it was like a waterhose of smoke on the pallet. I have never had a habano with such a lush draw. Not loose, but lush. Very remarkable.

The first taste notes were massive coffee beans and chocolate. Very pleasant. After the first half, the very evident coffee bean flavor died down and it was more of the chocolate (subdued) and a rich creamy note, with just a hint of pepper. The twang really showed up in the second half. Did I mention that this stick SQUIRTS smoke into your pallet??? I smoked it down to the last inch, where it started to get hot and I let it go out.

The burn was slightly uneven, but since I was under a slow pair of ceiling fans, that is not unusual. The ash was gray with a dark black tip and burn ring.

I would call this cigar very flavorable, but not overly strong. Not at all bland, but not a head shrinker. It was a nice change of pace, and I would order another box to keep them around. I would assume they will pick up a bit more punch with some age.

A very nice little stick. If you like a lush draw, you really need to try these. I think I will like the Hoyo McNuggets!

Honestly, I have only smoked a very few Epicure #2's, so I really could not say.
