Starting a tobacco business

I searched the forums to see if this had ever been discussed before, and found nothing...

I'm looking into the possibility of starting a small tobacco business (hopeuflly going large scale). Does anyone have any information on how one would become a retailer for some of the larger brands like Altadis and General Cigar? Also, how about humidors and accessories?

I'm considering just going through some place like JR until things get moving, but I would like to go ahead and become a retailer if possible.

Just curious, How does one make a profit selling items JR sells on line and in their stores?

It's a difficult business, not one to be entered into lightly.

the one place I saw that did pretty well reselling JR products was in Cooper Landing, AK. Of course, they had a laundromat and sold liquor in those little airline bottles. Great place to do your laundry.

Free fabric softener with the purchase of five or more cigars.

Easy or not so easy. You have to sell hard to find Padrons and Fuentes, and treat your customers like gold. Have a nice smoking lounge, and some reasonably priced sticks that are not that far off from e-tailer's prices. Some good coffee or maybe a little nip o' whiskey on the sly. A big smile, knowing their name, I'm gald you came in because I've got some special sticks you might be interested in... all of the special attention that makes a bussiness go.

Easy to say. A bit tougher to do. Pull it off and you're a success. Don't and loose your ass.

Know your customer and cater to him/her.

Do that two or three hundred times a week and...bingo! You're a star!
