The grind

USDA Prime brisket is $2.99/lb this week. That means 75 lbs of ground beef patties are getting frozen today. 🤪

Good man. Brisket makes the tastiest burgers. When I hit a hot deal on brisket, I buy at least 3. One for the pit, one for the grinder and one for the freezer to hold me over until the next hot brisket special. I think that I currently have 3 in the big freezer. 2 whole and one ground.

It's not so great for a meatloaf by itself. You need to add in some Chuck or sirloin.

Steak and shake burgers are brisket and sirloin.

I am a tad surprised that prime brisket in the heart of Texas is even that expensive. That's a regular price for choice Packers here. Publix has the balls to charge as much as $6/lb for choice flats. That's ludicrous. Even corned beef select or choice flats are much less than half that.

Forecast high for Des Moines this weekend is 50...gonna put 3 shoulders in the smoker to stock back up. Used the last pack over Christmas when I did not want to cook. (yeah I know it has little to do with cheap brisket...but hey.....BBQ)
