Advice re: long term wine/port storage

I'm having a kid early next year and looking to buy some port and wine for long term storage. My question involves the vibration inherent in a compressor wine cooler system (i'm using my TE wine cooler for my cigars, but I have an older compressor based system). Some of the online information indicates that the vibration caused by the compressor can mess up the wine. Other sites with a more detailed analysis (including http://www.brentwoodwine.com/invest/storing1098.html) indicates that this is more of an old wives tale and the only concern is that vibration will stir up settlement and that this is only a problem when you are close to drinking it.

I'd rather use my existing wine cooler than buy a new one, but I also don't want to waste money and time on storing wines that turn out bad either.

What say you oh various experts of all things obscure, liquid and tasty?

P.S. My first purchase will likely be a 2003 Croft Vintage Port that gets excellent reviews online and which they have at what seems to be an excellent price at a liquor store around the corner. I haven't found any place in Atlanta yet that has any kind of selection of Port (or 1/2 bottles which would also be nice) but I was excited about that.
