I dunno. He's been one of hte world's greatest players over the last 15 years. Soccer fans in this country SHOULD know him for his career. The marginal American sports fan, who might be attracted to a match on occasion will know him. They may go to see him once, just so see the guy who head-butted that Italian (was it an Italian?) dude in that big game back in the day.
He could be a great MLS player for a year or two. Beckham, on the other hand, has five years or so provided he doesn't get injured.
