Newbie humidor question.

I have a small desktop humidor that has the disk for holding the humidifying solution. My question is can I use humidifying beads in this or should I do it some other way? Thanks in advance.

Beads are waaaay better than using the puck.

Pucks are inconsistant at best and could leak on your cigars (worst).

Tear the crap outta the puck and use it as a bead holder.

Thank you very much, that's what I needed to know. Now where is a good place to buy the beads?

Tom,
Heartfelt beads are the way to go. I bought a pound of the 65% beads on ebay for $15 including shipping and I put 2 ounces in a bunch of wedding confectioner mesh bags you get on the dinner tables and they work great. Next time you are at a wedding ask everyone at your table if you can have their. Most people don't like those candied almonds anyway and you are good to go. I put one dry bag and one soaked in distilled water in my desktop. I keeps your cigars at a consistent humidity. The temperature is the only other variable that is harder to control, but not really an issue as long as your house is anywhere between 65 and 70 degrees. I put the rest of my beads in my frigidor.

A very professional choice for your beads is aquarium filter media bags. Kinda spendy, though. I use cheap knee-high nylon stockings from Walmart @ $0.99/pair. Hey, when you have 13 48qt coolers, 2 desktops, and miscellaneous overflow storage, you learn to economize!
