proper storage of unopened boxes

Hi, I'm new to the board, but not cigars. I've read everything I can locate on the topic and am still confused. I have always stocked my cigars in my humidors segregated by flavor, type, strength, etc. based on what I smoke over a few month period. However, I have gotten the bug and want to lay down some favorites for next summer or the summer after. I prefer full bodied Nicaraguan cigars of large size and ring guage, with complex flavors of earth, pepper, coffee and chocolate.

I have so far purchased approximately 6 boxes of various favorites leaving them in their factory/retailer shrink wrapped cedar boxes. I then placed these in zip lock bags with humistat sticks with 50/50 mix of PG and a hygrometer. Once a week I push fresh air in and reclose. I don't have room right now for a coolerdor so I'm trying this method.

Am I wasting my time? Should I remove the factory shrink wrap so the box can breathe at least within the zip lock environment? Will my cigars age and develop their character?

I appreciate any criticism and help in reaching my goal. Hopefully my wife will not kill me in the process,,,I have my fingers crossed. Help!
