Is it just me?

Over the last 10 years I've owned a Prometheus and a couple Colibris. Not one of them has lasted more than a year. Much less in some cases.

On the other hand, over the same period I've had several of these, either from Ebay or a local liquor store, that have lasted well beyond a year. Even if they only lasted a couple months I wouldn't be put out to have to buy one a few times a year for $6 a pop.

Whatever the case, seems to be quite a racket those "high-end" lighter companies have going. What gives?
"Personal charisma is a force that undermines institutions as often as it sustains them. Political institutions need the more reliable buttresses of tradition and duty. Mass emotionalism and celebrity-worship are hostile to any constitutional system."
