Is it just me?

Over the last 10 years I've owned a Prometheus and a couple Colibris. Not one of them has lasted more than a year. Much less in some cases.

On the other hand, over the same period I've had several of these, either from Ebay or a local liquor store, that have lasted well beyond a year. Even if they only lasted a couple months I wouldn't be put out to have to buy one a few times a year for $6 a pop.

Whatever the case, seems to be quite a racket those "high-end" lighter companies have going. What gives?

Colibris have ALWAYS sucked, at least the ones with electronic ignitions. That's based on my experience and what I have heard/read from others. I have heard that Prometheus used to be good but have lost their quality in recent years.

If you want to get a "high end" lighter that won't disappoint and that will last, try a Dupont X-tend. JMO, YMMV.

That sums up my experience as well. We stopped carrying Colibri 2 years ago at the shop I used to work at because they kept breaking so often. I have pretty good luck with Xikar lighters, and they've got a better warranty too. And after about 9 months of use I have no problems with my Z-plus insert.

Just ordered a Z-plus insert off ebay for $13 shipped. I've heard good things, so we'll see how it does...

Carry a can of gas in your bag. The flame lasts a few minutes at most.

The only lighter that had lasted more than a year with me is the Blazer PB207. The colibris and prometheus are POS'.
