Another question for the experts

I am building a cabinet humidor for a final project at school. I have all my plans/dimensions worked out except for one thing: what type of door seal works best?

I had originally planned on using a lap seal, like a desktop humidor, where the cedar liner in the door 'nests' into the main liner. But is this adviseable?

All of the commercially available (and even custom) cabinets I've seen online use weather stripping or some type of foam/rubber seal around the door. Is this done for ease of contruction? Or is there another reason?

I don't see why the desktop-type seal couldn't be used, provided everything is fairly precise. My humidor is going to be 22 x 15 as viewed from the front, and made from quarter sawn mahogany for minimal wood movement.

What say the experts?
