Another word or two about the beads:
They do not hold a lot of moisture, nor will they absorb a lot of it either. Even a small water and PG humidifier can release a ton of moisture into the environment, but the problems (as aluded to by most previous posts) are trouble dialing in and keeping a constant humidity, and the PG itself. You'll need a relatively large amount of beads, but when you have enough in the 'dor they work great. They work best in sealed (or nearly) spaces such as coolerdor and good wooden units. If your humidor is the least bit leaky, they will drive you nuts trying to get the humidity to stay where it needs to be. Ask me, I know from experience. In the new cabinet I am building, I will be using beads along with an active humidifier and circulation fan. The beads are there to absorb any excess moisture - sort of a fine adjustment option. |
