Estate Pipes Opinion

I'm in the process of pipe shoppping and have seen several sites with Estate Pipes for sale. On the surface it looks like a good opportunity to obtain some nice pipes from classic companies for reasonable prices. Many are advertised as being sterilized, cleaned, waxed, etc. and most appear to be in decent shape. I plan to buy a new one next week to get started, but am considering estate selections to help cost effectively build my rotation

I realize it is difficult to generalize and that each deal stands on its own, but I'm wondering if any of you all have had experiences (good or bad) with getting estate pipes and if there have been any specific sites that you would recommend or avoid, gotchas to watch out for, tips, etc? Thanks in advance for the input -- RH

There are some good deals as well as great pipes to be had by buying estate pipes. I have always had good luck with them. You can try Ebay but the bidding there gets out of hand. A good one to try and I use them frequently is www.smokingpipes.com They are great to deal with.

Thanks for the feedback. I've actually looked at that site, based on a reference in a previous post of yours (I think). It's good to know they have a decent reputation. Thanks again & have a great week-end. --RH

Here also.... http://www.frenchyspipes.com/index.php

Great selection, prices, and service. The estates and new pipes are mixed together but they are listed as new or estate.

Haven't been up to see Bob at the Pipe Den in Vero Beach, FL in several months, but he had a good stock of estate pipes last time I was there. Check out his website here:
