100% Pure Agave Tequilas
I know my buddy Monteman loves Patron, but I have discovered some mid-price-point Tequilas that are outstanding for sipping.
Camarena LINK 1800 LINK Ultimo El Agave LINK Actually, I'd forgo 1800 in favor of either of the other two. Good stuff Mainord.

Price point?
Personally, I like Herradura Reposado way more than Patron...and it costs about half as much.

Herradura is the distillery in jalisco that makes El Jimador too. I have 3 bottles of that in my cabinet that I paid about 15$ US for. Very smooth, very nice tequilia.

I'm not a tequila drinker, but I saw a post on another board from a guy who claims to have run into a distributor for Agave 99 Tequila Anejo, the distribuor is alleged to have mentioned that Costco Tequila is the same product re-branded but for close to half the price.
One of you more adventurous guys that live in a state where Costco sells hard liquor might want to check this out. |

whole agave tequila may be in for a price surge.
Agave takes what, 5 years to reach maturity, and then the entire plant is destroyed in harvesting? Right now, Agave growers have learned that 8 ounces of agave syrup can be sold at retard mart for about $5, without all of those damned expenses invovled in distilling, bottling, and distributing a fine tequila. The product will continue to be diverted to making sugar substitutes. Tequila has been growing in popularity for a long time, and will probably continue to grow. The limited supply of Pinas that can be harvested have now got another market that is going to compete with the tequila industry. A serious injury to the crop in any given year will have a pretty big effect on the good stuff, because the makers will prefer to sell volume of cheap stuff, instead of the good stuff. In any case, expect a whole lot of other tequilas to follow the trend of adding sugars to the vats and reducing the agave juice. |
