What not to do with an antique humidor
First: I have to say I've made some mistakes too. I've learned from them. And I started out with cheapo 50s and 60s humidors.
Check this out: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA:IT&ih=020 That is a beautiful box. Quartersawn oak circa 1890s, fantastic! The box was varnished and you can see runs on the edges. Kinda sloppy but not too bad. My main beef is what the guy did to the hardware. Burnishing with fine steel wool will usually clean it and not strip it. This looks like it was chemically treated and it is just STRIPPED! I'm guessing it was all brass plated. and the brass is just...gone. The interior would look alot better with 3/8" or even 1/4" cedar. I wish I could snag a box like that. |

I reckon looks crappy now,
if the lower drawer handle had just been a brass knob, that would look alright, but a screen door-like handle. SPEW

FAKE
IMHO this is a fake - the corner brass looks like it was added lately
I wouldn't pay 10 bucks for it

I must have this humidor thing all wrong. It sold for over $600.
I'm feeling pretty clueless. |
