That's good to hear.
I use cat litter beads for humidity, though though i may need nee ones as it seems i need to rehydrate often.

I don't fret the temps. As noted, keep it under 80. Here in georgia I keep the cigars moister in the summer so that when I smoke them outside, drawing in that damp air does not cause them to explode...

If I recall correctly, cigar beetles can hatch in temps as low as 72.

Personal experience - my humidors run in the high 70's most of the summer (georgia, your a bitch!) - never seen one.

Just MHO...

Don't a lot of the non-Cuban cigar makers freeze their tobacco, thereby killing any beetle eggs and preventing a beetle outbreak even if the temps get too high?

Lew used to. I've seen the freezer myself. Don't know if corporate still does. Imnsho, they'd be stupid not to, but they have a 10 year history of stupid.

In nola, as now, I have a 28 cu/ft freezer that will go to -10 degrees Fahrenheit. I freeze my imported cigars in vacuum sealed bags for a month, thaw them in the fridge, and let them come to room temp before packing them away in the coolerdors.

4 months in Katrina heat turned my coolers into beetle hatcheries. You would cry if you saw the state of all of those cigars.

I havent had a beetle problem since. 65-70 percent at 76 degrees.

I think if you do the deep freeze that you won't have any problems. The beetle eggs are killed with the deep freeze. Any beetles that show up after that would have to come from something other than the cigars.

But you have to get the freezer you use to at least -5 degrees. Lower if you can do it.

I've had 2 glass top humidors and both had problems with temps and humidity. My solution was to put some caulk around the glass much like around window panes. It helped seal in the humidity and kept the temp even.
