My Payne-Mason review
This past Monday I received a Payne-Mason Habana Unos maduro. I'm not certain if it was the churchill or the double corona.
Like most folks I suspect, I don't smoke new cigars right off the truck. I'm usually disappointed if they don't spend a least a few months in the humidor. Since that wasn't an option this time, I had to settle for six days at 65% RH. This cigar has a slightly rough maduro wrapper with a couple of prominent veins, but was generally pretty attractive. It did have a split at the foot. The draw was slightly on the tight side, but not too bad. In fact, this cigar made a decent amount of smoke, and I was able to draw a fair amount through. The smoke was light and crisp, not cloying. The burn was very trying. I prefer to use matches, so smoking a cigar, such as this one, that needs contant corrections can be an annoyance. Cutting to the chase now. Slighty bitter throughout. Medium-bodied, the flavors were occasionally more subtle, and found themselves over-ridden by the bitterness. Sweet earth. Hay in the sun. How can the flavor and the aroma be divided? When I could get to the flavors, I enjoyed them quite a bit. To me, the problems with this cigar seemed like any other cigar I've had that needed more time. - Wiley |
