Sonny Stitt

Been listening to alot of Sonny Stitt recently and I was wondering what others thought of him. Largely dismissed as a Parker clone he nonetheless commanded great respect from his fellow musicians the jazz public. Said to have recorded more than 150 albums under his own name I find the work he did for Verve and Roost in the late 50s and early 60s to be his best. Greating blowing albums. Standards and blues only but with irresistible, contagious ebullience. Verve recently released "New York Jazz" on CD for the first time. Highly recommended.javascript:emoticon('')
