I just got an Archos Jukebox Studio 10 which has a 10GB hard drive in it. I've copied 1230 songs onto it and still have 4.5GB left. If you take an average of 3 minutes per song (which is probably low for what I listen to) that equates to 61.5 hours on the thing so faf, so you're looking at something like 110 hours on the 10GB drive.
As to how easy it is to load. Once set up, it looks like another hard drive to windows and you just copy the songs you want onto it (drag & drop with Windows Explorer). THey even give you the software (MusicMatch) to manage your music (RIP/Burn CD's, play MP3's, etc). Email me if you want more info. Edited by - tbateman on 01/02/2003 8:28:39 PM

I helped one of the managers here set up a Rio 900 for her husband. I put 40 songs on it for her. Very nice little unit. He is a runner and he loves it, no more songs skipping.
Very easy to use software. It can transfer existing mp3s and will rip (convert) a CD for transfer. About 6 hrs with 128mb ram. here is a link http://www.diamondmm.com/audio/rio/rio_900.asp rg

I had a archos juke 40 gig, but the harddrive could not take vibration at all.
Bought it for a Motorcycle trip to canada last summer. About 10 miles into the trip it started skipping then would error out. When we were in camp it worked great. The old mps players with no moving parts were great but did not store enough music. Maybe after a while they will work out the bugs in the ones with harddrives. For home use or use in the car the 20 gig and 40 gig Jukeboxes are great. When I took it back to bestbuys, they told me I was the 2 0r 3 person that had taken them back for this reason. Hope this helps JOHN |

A month ago of so I was looking for an MP3 player for use on airplanes. Rather than buy a true MP3 player, I opted for a $40 portable CD player that will play CD-Rs burned with MP3's. I can get about 10 "normal" CDs on a single CD-R if I convert the files to MP3.
It won't help your skip problem but it does make it more convenient to travel with lots of music. |

I am looking to record from cd to mp3 player. Is it easy? Do I need special software? How are the volume levels on these things? Anything with Bass Boost?
Looks like I will be looking more for these "jukbox" style. Lots of good info here, thanks.

Ripping CDs to MP3s on your computer is quite easy. You can download a program like MusicMatch Jukebox and start doing it now.
