Salt Test on Hygrometer

I received my humidor from UPS yesterday. I took the hygrometer and did a salt test. After 6 hours this thing was reading 80%, which obviously seems high. I adjusted it per the instructions.

I didn't have any table salt for the test. All we had was sea salt and koscher salt. I used the koscher salt for the test. I can't imagine this would effect the outcome on the hygrometer reading. What do you guys think?

I ordered a Perfecto hygrometer to place inside. Figured that I could check one reading against the other.

1. make sure the container was airtight. I have unsuccessfully used baggies before, only getting good results with those resealable gladware containers.

2. give the test longer than 6 hours. I have waited and seen changes between hours 112 and 24 previously.

Do allow 24-36 hours for the test. The equilibrium moisture content of 75.5% cannot have been reached after only 6 hours...The kosher salt should be okay as long as you are testing a kosher hygrometer...

It took me a good 24 hours to get my hygrometers to stabilize during my salt tests as well. Just give it a little more time.

I ended up buying one of those radio Shack jammies....was about 2% low....I could live with that I think it great.....

"I was Jealous of Hamr's set up" shhhh! dont tell him

Stupid me....just put cans of water around my room just to bring up my "rooms" RH... now I'm not going to be satisfied until theres a smilie face on my reader.. I really never knew my room was that dry....

All I wanted to do was humidify my new humi, and I ended up trying to humidify my whole house..

edit: Does anyone know how long it takes to season a new Vicksburg?
