Well, just to represent the minority position, I keep my humidifier element moistened with 50/50 solution and have never had any kind of problem. The folks are right: the seal is great, so you don't have to add more liquid very often, but I can't think of any reason not to use the humidifier element.
My reasoning is that the caddy is completely airtight. Therefore, if your cigars are properly humidified to begin with there is no reason to add more. Like many have said, cigars can go many weeks (and probably longer) in a caddy with no humidification device. Just my two cents.
