Hell, I complain about the cost of the 16 year Lagavulin!

Oh, I agree, but I have this problem. Every time I open a bottle it seems to evaporate rather quickly!

It seems to me that he is saying that selling a bottle of scotch for fifty grand isn't what's important, what's important is that they can use that sale as a powerful ad campaign that doesn't really look like an ad campaign. It's sort of like having an endorsement, but free. When the entire world is talking about how outrageous it is, that name gets superheated. Until I read that, I had completely forgotten that there was a whisky called glenfarclas. See, their expensive bottle wormed its way all through the internet and the publicity machine to me. Now, the next time I'm looking at a liquor store, I may actually notice the stuff if it is on the shelf.
