First things first: that nickname.

Bill Parcells confirmed the origins at his press conference Thursday.

More than 20 years ago, when he was the linebackers coach in Boston, some of his players tried to pull a fast one over on Parcells one Thanksgiving.

Free turkey and all the trimmings at some location was the “fast one,” and Parcells supposedly responded: “Who do you think I am … Charlie the Tuna?”

That was a reference to a television commercial at the time for Starkist tuna where an animated tuna kept falling for clever ruses concealing a hook that always snagged him.

So, naturally the players — handed a nickname on a fish-shaped platter — started calling him Charlie Tuna and wearing tuna pictures on their helmets.
