I have been having problems even with "precision" hygrometers (if there is such a thing. All reading of by 4-6%.

A couple of A/c engineering experts told me that the error is due to the pressure/altitude difference (I am using them at about 6,000 ft elevation. Any of our experts out there ever heard of altitude affecting humidity readings?
