I'm going to quote you on that one.

Today's Country music is ridiculous - I'd rather listen to RAP if I had to chose. Absolutely hate it, awful writing stuipdassed songs.

However they have some really great musicians in their bands

IMO, the older country music was more authentic, many of the singers had lived what they sang about, or at least knew people that lived that.

It's what made the Blues such a strong genre, people sang from their heart, put emotion into it.

There is some good country music out there, but..the mainline stuff is...pretty much cookie cutter songs with interchangeable musicians.

As for Tim McGraw, he's never been a particularly great singer, he's just been marketable.

He is entitled to his opinion, and I am free to leave his record to collect dust on the store's shelf.

Ain't 'Merica great!

I agree with Steve Earle It went bad when they stopped killing people in country songs.
I like old country and story telling music but the 'new' country that I have heard is just stupid lyrics. I do not know Tim McGraw from Foster and Dunn or whoever - I know who Faith Hill is cause of NFL football

One vote for modern country here. While there are some really good examples in the top 40 of country music gone wrong, the 80's rock with twangy guitars sound is at least palatable. Besides, if you listen to songs outside the mainstream country top 40, you will see that there are still some good song writers working.

The old country may have had marginally better lyrics, but I just can't stand to listen to it.

Good point. A lot of good stuff outside of mainstream country top 40.
