Review: Neil Young

Well, went to the Neil Young show last night. Kind of a disappointment. Pretty much the whole show was new songs from a "concept" album Neil is coming out with called Greendale. They all pretty much sounded the same, bland electric ballads, if you know what I mean. Sort of like Pocahontas (which I really like), but not as good. He did come back for two encores, where he did Powderfinger, Hey Hey My My and Like a Hurricane, which were all excellent.

I guess Neil Young's experimentation is part of why he is, IMHO, one of the most talented artists in contemporary music. But he doesn't always get it right (think back to some of those early and mid 80s albums). Greendale, I fear, will be along those lines. Sometimes you just gotta give the people what they want.

But, I'll see him again if I get the chance (on another tour).
