Advice on a sale with stranger

So I sold a pretty nice driver the other day to a stranger in chicago. Everything went fine, item was delivered, then the dreaded text, "I think someone stole it from my house." He lives in a gated apartment complex and says the driver was definitely delivered but is now gone.

He will be getting the $50 insurance, but the driver was worth more than that. I don't know this guy at all. No clue whether the driver actually was stolen or not.

What do I do? Do I refund him and take the hit? Split it with him? Be glad he got the $50 back? The driver, my asset, is gone. However if it's all on the up and up, then he isn't getting what he paid for.

What would you do?
