Tenuta San Guido "Le Difese" 2008

I broached my first bottle of this Tuscan red alongside a standing rib-eye roast last night. The wine was 'double-decanted' approximately 1½-hour prior to serving. Initial impressions? Still quite closed on the nose. However, the flavour was nothing short of excellent. A lovely core of dark fruit tautly conveyed within a very clean palate presentation. Silky tannins lent an air of effortless elegance. Very impressive for such a young wine. Good value too, considering what the estate's premier wine (Sassicaia) is now fetching price-wise. Highly recommended for drinking over the next few years.
