that is very true, they have a toscano that is very good, extremely good aged gouda, and some nice Spanish cheeses as well, including at least one with a wine washed rind.

Guess I'm lucky to be near a Trader Joe's and Zabar's, whose cheese department is hypnotic.

Guess I'll have to give TJ another go. I stopped when they started trying to be the Whole Foods prepared meals.

I muchbprefer Sprouts or Fresh Market to TJ, even though they are all 3 a mile apart.

By all means give them another shot. YMMV, of course, but I drive right past a Sprouts to get to TJs...

A creamy Gorgonzola/blue or good washed rind cheese does it for me. Dillon's grocery in Manhattan and Lowrents KS each have a staffed Murray's kiosk with some wooonderful cheeses. Oh, can't leave out bloomy rind.

I don't remember the name of the cheese, but I'm digging on a block of smoked aged Gouda. Creamy, slightly crystalline and just enogh smoke flavor to draw it together. I believe I picked it up at Costco.

I love simple Parmiggiano-Reggiano, Locatelli Romano, and fresh ricotta salata. Ricotta Salata with a sprinkle of extra-virgin olive oil and a basil leaf, similar to but not Caprese is a lovely treat.

Asiago is another stinky cheese that hits the spot.
