Need Help with digital Hygrometer Calibration

Hi, i purchased a couple digital hygrometers. I did the Salt Test (placing a teaspoon of salt, dampened with a few drops of water, in an air tight ziploc bag for 6 hours with the digital hygrometer in the bag) to see if they were calibrated correctly. It read around 60% humidity for all 3. I repeated the test and got the same 60% humidity reading for all 3 digital hygrometers. Now, i can't believe that all 3 digital hygrometers are off by 15%. Is there something i'm doing wrong?

Point 2- 6 hours isn't long enough for the humidity or the gauge to stabilize. I would go for at least 12 hours, 24 hours would be even better.

Double bag or better yet use a small tupperware container, and wait at least 18-24 hrs. to judge the results. I wouldn't salt test digital hygros in the first place though.

Why not? I say it's a good thing to do. I salt tested mine and it read 71%. I'm glad to know mine is 4% off. I use 65% beads and my hygro reads 61%. If I hadn't talk tested I would be driving myself nuts trying to figure out whats wrong with my beads.

I like to use the Boveda Humidity Packets, when I'm testing my hygrometers.
Just like Krakatoa said, use a small "clear" tupperware container or I like to use the large Arturo Fuente The Humidor Bag.
Also, make sure you run your test for at least 48-72 hrs and don't forget to change the batteries, often.

Now how does that work? Do you ask the hygrometer a bunch of True/False questions?

Six hours is not really long enough for everything to reach equilibrium. You might also try another zip lock bag and make sure it is not leaking and is in fact air tight. I've alway done the salt test on my digital hygrometers and they all been within a few points of the 75. I would try another bag or double bag and give it at least 24 hours. Good Luck!
