Redland Cigar Company Lancero
Redland Cigar Company is the closest B&M to my home. It also has the largest cigar lounge in Texas, with 22,000 square feet of leather chairs and large screen televisions. It is a membership club, but buying your cigars there will get you a one-day membership to the lounge, as opposed to the $250/year membership fee. They have a lot of events, including cigar-specific nights, where you can meet cigar makers like Robert Holt of Southern Draw, James Brown of Black Label Trading Company and, coming up, "Shorty" of Diesel Cigars, an AJ Fernandez product.
One of the three owners, Scott Wanner, is mostly responsible for the events and the cigars on hand. They have a boutique smokers paradise in their humidor with cigars by CLE, Illusione, Espinosa 601s and Esteban Carreras. Their "store brand" cigars are rolled by Carreras and include a full line of corona gordas and, added recently, the maduro lancero. Silky smooth Maduro wrapper. Aromas of cocoa, tobacco and cedar. Nice firm bunch. Closed foot with a perfect cold draw. Today’s beverage is a Deschutes Black Butte Porter. The cigar starts with rich dark chocolate flavors combined with full bodied tobacco flavors and some cedar. There is a touch of white pepper in the retrohale. The burn is even and the ash is light grey and fairly solid. During the first third the ash falls and the burn remains even. The cigar is producing a very pleasant volume of smoke. The cedar and cocoa flavors are blending nicely. The pepper notes in the retrohale are building moderately. During the second third the smoke remains cool and pleasant. The complexity continues to be excellent with a bit of vanilla sneaking into the mix. The construction of this cigar is excellent. Nearing the final inch the flavors remain complex and very pleasant. Any heat buildup is easily purged. This is definitely not your average store brand cigar. 9/10, Joe Bob says check it out.
