Cigar Inflation

I've noticed as with everything else cigars prices are increasing. The price of a cigar here in NH has gone up almost 12%. How has the increase in cigar prices affected your selecting of cigars due to the price increases? I myself have enough cigars that I really don't need to buy any cigars. But when I do buy a cigar at my local B&M I am much more careful as to what I select. How about you?

Over the last couple years, CCs prices have gone insane. Don't purchased them anymore. For NCs, I usually try to find bargains even before the prices increased.

I buy most of mine on auction. That really keeps the price down. I've only been to the cigar shop a couple of times since my heart attack. That was over 3 years ago and quite frankly I'm shocked at how expensive they've become.

Years ago, a really good solid cigar was $5 and the expensive ones were $7 or $8. Rarely did anything exceed $10. Pretty much a decent cigar now starts at $10 and it goes sharply up from there.

I think taxes are having an effect on retail prices

Up here in NH there is no state tax or cigar tax. But prices are still going up.

There's Fed taxes though, and the cost of bringing new cigars through new FDA regulations. Fed tobacco taxes have been somewhat increasing stealthily.

There's one reason, and one reason only, why prices are insane. Let's go Brandon!!!

You’re entitled to your own opinion. You’re even entitled to insult me. But I’m entitled to disagree.

The really big jump was CHIP. That was the federal tax meant to fund child healthcare. I forget the specifics, but it added Federally something like 44 cents a cigar. It doesn't sound like much, but once you figure that cigars are taxed at each level it compounds the price. The state taxes that on import and the local sales tax is on both. You're paying tax on tax on tax.

That was also when boxes went from 25 to 20 for the most part.

Cigars still don't need to cost that much. Cigar companies, shops etc charge that much because people are willing to pay that much. You can't blame them, but it doesn't change the fact that they could be cheaper.
